Disney & Pixar's 'Elio' Delayed for 2025

Among the myriad of movies delayed due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes occurring last year is Disney Pixar's 29th original installment, ‘Elio.’ Produced by Pete Docter and Mary Alice Drumm, ‘Elio’ follows the adventures of an imaginative 11-year-old boy named Elio, played by Yonas Kibreab, after he is mistakenly identified as Earth’s ambassador and beamed up to a mysterious alien universe.

Originally planned to be theatrically released in the United States on March 1st, 2024, the film has since been delayed to release on June 13th, 2025. However, before the movie’s theatrical release delay was officially confirmed, a teaser trailer and poster for ‘Elio’ debuted on June 13th, 2023, giving viewers a first look at the movie’s visuals and characters.

The trailer shows young protagonist Elio, a shy boy with an eyepatch concealing his left eye (reasons undisclosed), his mother, Major Olga Solis, played by charismatic actor America Ferrera, in charge of a top-secret military project attempting to decode alien messages, and a host of alien life animated in a cartoonish style characteristic of Pixar’s recent projects such as ‘Luca’ and ‘Turning Red.’ The voices of America Ferrera and Yonaz Kibreab are joined by actors Brad Garrett and Jameela Jamil, who provide the voices for two alien ambassadors who join Elio on his journey through the imaginative alien universe.

The trailer is filled with plenty of one-liners, brand-new character appearances, and captivating visuals hinting toward the spectacular adventure to come in ‘Elio’ in 2025. Surprisingly, the comments underneath the official ‘Elio’ trailer on YouTube are generally positive, with many people expressing their anticipatory excitement for the originality of the movie’s story and visuals. Given many people's recent negative attitudes toward Disney entertainment lately, I can only hope these comments hint at the open-minded and positive attitude to be continually adopted by fans for the coming film.

I myself am excited at the prospect of an original story by Pixar. I am a big fan of Pixar’s 2021 film ‘Luca’ and their controversial 2022 and 2023 installments ‘Turning Red’ and ‘Elemental,’ and I have no doubt ‘Elio’ will live up to the visually captivating and storytelling standards characteristic of most Pixar films. With ‘Inside Out 2’ theatrically releasing in theaters next month, I’m excited about what the studio has planned for the future.

Thanks for reading!:)
