Disney 'Moana 2' Teaser Trailer Announcement + Blog Update

Hi, I'm back! :) After taking a short break to focus on finals and my family, I'm going to attempt to post at least one blog post a month. While one post a month doesn't seem like very many, I'd like to set realistic expectations for myself moving forward.:) Disney with Deja was created as a graded project for one of my college classes, and I'd like to continue writing posts. Just a heads up, the style in which my posts are written may change slightly to be more reminiscent of my personality now that my writing/blog content is not going to be graded moving forward (yay!). I'm also considering posting about Disney Parks news as well, but as of right now, my primary focus will be Disney and Star Wars entertainment. If you're still here, thanks for sticking around! I'm excited to get back into posting! That being said, onto the announcement!:)

The release of the 'Moana 2' teaser trailer was announced on Instagram on Tuesday, May 28th. It was paired with a brand new poster for the film displaying the demigod Maui's fishhook and Moana's oar forming the number two on a sandy island beach. The silhouette of Moana can be seen in the poster's background, blowing into a conch shell as her long, wavy hair blows in the island breeze.

The almost two-minute teaser trailer was released the morning following the social media announcement and has attracted lots of positive media attention. The May 29th teaser for the highly anticipated sequel garnered over 178 million views in its first 24-hour debut, making it the most viewed debut for a Disney animated movie trailer ever!

The trailer showed fans lots of exciting visuals from the upcoming film, including an exciting look at several returning characters and some new characters as well. Moana, now 19 years old, is seen wearing a brand-new outfit, complete with red and beige tropical elements paired with her grandmother Tala's necklace that once held the heart of Te Fiti in the preceding 'Moana' film. Other exciting aspects of the trailer show Moana's parents holding a young girl, presumably Moana's younger sister, born sometime in the three years between 'Moana' and 'Moana 2' and scene fragments showing the exciting elements of ancient Polynesian island life, architecture, and wayfinding. Also shown in the trailer are a myriad of additional characters, including the mischievous Kakamora, a giant glowing whale shark, and a mysterious island-shaped creature.

The teaser trailer also gave fans more information regarding the story of 'Moana 2.' The official film synopsis, alongside the first visual look in February, reads, "Moana journeys to the far seas of Oceania after receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors." With the release of the sequel's teaser, it appears Moana will not be alone on her journey, voyaging alongside three new characters, including an elderly male, a muscularly built man, and a young boy. The last scene in the trailer also shows Maui joining Moana on her journey to the far seas, this time with clumsy but endearing chicken Hei Hei and Kunekune pig Pua.

Overall, the trailer sets the scene for the official trailer, which I predict will be released at Disney's D23 Expo in early August. If you're unfamiliar with the D23 Expo, it is a three-day event known for showcasing exclusive sneak peeks at upcoming Walt Disney Company entertainment, celebrity appearances, and looks at proposed plans for the Disney Parks and Resorts.

I personally haven't been this excited to watch a Disney sequel in a long time, at least, not since 'Frozen 2' back in 2019, which ironically held the record for the most-watched Disney animated trailer debut until 'Inside Out 2' broke it last fall and now 'Moana 2' holds the current record. I can only imagine where Moana's determined personality and adventurous spirit will take her on her upcoming journey, and I'm hoping the soundtrack will also live up to the film's anticipation. On a final note, I'm happy Pua is joining Moana on her voyage this time because, to be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of Hei Hei, and I remember being disappointed as an 11-year-old when Pua didn't tag along on Moana's journey to restore the heart of Te Fiti (I've always thought Pua was way more cute than Hei Hei anyway haha).

Thanks for reading! If you're excited to watch 'Moana 2,' feel free to leave a comment telling me what you're most excited to see in the upcoming film!:)
