Welcome to Disney with Deja!

Hi, my name is Deja Vanderbilt! I'm a Washburn University freshman pursuing a degree in Mass Media with an emphasis in Advertising and PR. I was born and raised in Kansas, and some of my hobbies include writing, photography, and watching movies. I'm an aspiring public relations and social media professional with a passion for digital media, entertainment, and storytelling. I'm creative, hardworking, and, most of all, resourceful. I love connecting with people through relatable and inspiring content that leaves a lasting impression on my audience.

My career goal is to work for the Walt Disney Company on their media team, making magic for people all across the globe. As a lifelong Disney fan, I have an extremely extensive knowledge of the Walt Disney Company. Disney with Deja is a place for me to express my love for all things Disney and Star Wars and give commentary on the Walt Disney Company’s upcoming and current entertainment.

My love for The Walt Disney Company’s movies and entertainment began in January 2014. It was the last day of my elementary school winter break, and my mom took my five siblings and me to watch Frozen at our local movie theater. From the moment Anna and Elsa’s magical fairytale began to unfold, I was hooked. My love for Anna and Elsa's enchanting magical adventures, filled with true love and sisterhood, has stayed with me as I've grown up. Since my experience watching Frozen in theaters, my passion for Disney animation has continued to grow. Now, anytime a new Disney movie or show trailer is released, I’m usually the first of my family and friends to watch it. Some of my favorite Disney animated films include Disney's 60th animated film, Encanto, and the 2016 blockbuster, Moana. Disney’s animation style certainly has changed over the years, but my love for their beauty, catchy songs, and unique storytelling has only grown.

Despite having a deep-rooted love for Disney animation and live-action, my passion for Star Wars didn’t emerge until late December 2015, when my dad introduced me to A New Hope. My dad is a huge Star Wars fan, and he often tells me the story of him watching The Empire Strikes Back in theaters when he was younger and taking my mom to The Phantom Menace when they were first married. When I watched A New Hope for the first time, I was equally terrified and captivated by the mystical galaxy far, far away. I had never seen such dazzling characters and unique world-building before in movies. Heroes like Anakin Skywalker, Leia Organa, and newer characters from Lucasfilm’s animated shows, such as Ahsoka Tano and The Bad Batch, have only given me a deeper appreciation for the spectacular beauty of the Star Wars universe. As I’ve grown up, my love for different Star Wars characters and movies has changed and matured, but the original trilogy, the prequels, and The Force Awakens still hold a special place in my heart.

In conclusion, as a passionate Disney and Star Wars fan, my deep-rooted passion for the Walt Disney Company expands beyond my love for their movies as it inspires my writing, photography, and even fashion. My hope for this blog is to create a space to share my thoughts on Disney entertainment and bring people together in a love for the Walt Disney Company.
